Here's a random guess -- in 1802 British explorer Matthew Flinders named the land "Kanguroo" Island, after landing near Kangaroo Head on the north coast of Dudley Peninsula.

Predictably, Dave Tuckey's answer is correct and he is awarded 88 blerns.
I challenge the correctness of Dave Tuckey's answer on the basis that he is (apparently) not a Kangaroo.
